Oakhurst has some excellent walkability thanks to the Oakhurst Village (located around the intersection of East Lake Dr & Oakview Rd). This is the local’s destination for a quick bite to eat or drink at restaurants/pubs such as Universal Joint, Steinbeck’s, Mojo Pizza N Pub, Kavarna Coffee, and Scout (to name a few). Depending on where one lives, residents can walk their children to the Oakhurst Elementary school along Mead Rd or 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue (along 5th Ave & Oakview Rd).
Residents that live closer to the north end of Oakhurst along West College Ave can wake up and walk over to enjoy a cup of coffee and donuts at Revolution Donuts, which is known to have lines out the door especially on the weekends. A few steps down is The Imperial, a casual pub/restaurant perfect for a simple bite to eat or meet-up spot for a drink.

Want to make sure you are close to parks to keep the kids entertained? No problem. Oakhurst has 2 major parks: Oakhurst Park and McKoy Park. Oakhurst Park has a baseball field, playground equipment, a tennis court, and basketball court. McKoy Park also has a baseball field, basketball court, and playground equipment but also features a skate park and the McKoy Pool. Another smaller park used more for special events is Harmony Park right up in Oakhurst Village.

Mardi Gras Parade – Held along Mead St during the Mardi Gras season (February)
Oakhurst Wine Crawl – Casually sample wines from over 24 businesses in Oakhurst. Tickets must be purchased and must be 21+. (March)
Decatur BBQ, Blues, & Bluegrass – Despite it being held in the middle of summer, the area around Harmony Park is packed with local BBQ vendors and a growing number of bluegrass bands (10+) that festival-goers can enjoy throughout the day. (August)
Jazz Nights – This is a free event located at the Solarium at 321 W. Hill Street for everyone to relax & enjoy jazz concerts from 7-9PM (April & September)
Oakhurst Porchfest – Residents lend their porch to fellow local musicians to showcase their music while neighbors can stroll by and enjoy an eclectic mix of tunes. (October)

So What Does It Cost to Live in Oakhurst?
It’s no secret that Oakhurst is expensive. The popularity of Oakhurst has boomed over the past decade and thus home prices are high. Oakhurst is home to a ton of bungalows – some expanded/renovated and some are not. The tiniest little bungalows can start in the low $500’s. There has also been a spike in new construction of large craftsman homes. Single-family homes will typically start in the $650’s and can go up to $1.2 million (for large new construction that is). There are a few townhome options in Oakhurst, but they are more sparse (Seven Twelve Oakview, Oakview Townhomes, and the townhomes along Fairpark Ln are the main townhomes that can be found in Oakhurst). Another large expense to keep in mind is that Oakhurst is in the City of Decatur which has high taxes (remember that excellent schools = high taxes).
