If you haven’t heard, the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta is in the works to build a new Atlanta Children’s Hospital for roughly $1-1.3 billion. The new hospital is being built along I-85 and North Druid Hills Road. (read more details here). For those that work in the health care industry, it can be pivotal that they live near the hospital to minimize drive-time for those days they are on-call. I thought I’d point out 3 different neighborhoods near the new Atlanta Children’s Hospital that are worth considering.
Oak Grove/Sagamore Hills area – The Oak Grove/Sagamore Hills areas are already a fairly popular location for CHOA employees to live in. Oak Grove has a good elementary school and you can find large family homes with decent sized lots in the area. Plus, you get a touch of the suburbia life (homes aren’t so crammed in together as you find in more intown neighborhoods) but still remain within a 15-20 minute drive to Intown events. Brookhaven – I normally don’t advise CHOA employees to live in Brookhaven if they need to be within a quick drive to the Egleston Hospital. In my opinion, I think the commute is so indirect to the Emory campus. There are too many traffic lights that prevent for a short drive-time from Brookhaven into the Emory area. However, with the new Children’s Hospital located just off of I-85, the southern parts of Brookhaven seem much more appealing now. Brookhaven has a ton of great new-build home options for families and can offer a lot of the new features in a home that the majority of home buyers are looking for (open floor plan, bedroom on main floor, mud-room, etc). The Brookhaven location is a wonderful option for living within a quick drive over to Buckhead to enjoy all the dinner/shopping/night life. View Brookhaven homes for sale here.
Druid Hills/North Druid Hills – Of course, the Druid Hills area and north Druid Hills area will still remain a great option for homes near the new Atlanta Children’s Hospital. The commute time will still be short and the character of homes in the Druid Hills area just can’t be beat. The school (Fernbank Elementary) is also highly ranked so you can’t go wrong considering this area as an option for a family.
