A smaller version of the food hall Krog Street market opened up in Midtown in 2017 in Tech Square (along 5th St & Spring St) known as The Canteen. Visiting The Canteen has been on my to-do list for several months and finally I’ve had a chance to do just that. Here’s my review of The Canteen –

Overall the location and concept of The Canteen fits in perfectly in Tech Square. Georgia Tech students walk past here all the time and it’s an easy way to grab a bagel & coffee in the morning (TGM Bagel), have a sandwich during lunch (Yalla or Fred’s Meat & Bread) or for those of age – meet up with friends for a drink at Square Bar after classes. Not only is The Canteen an ideal lunch hangout for college students, but it also is a unique lunch spot for Midtown businesses as well as residents in Midtown.

Perhaps why I think it is such a good fit here is that it provides more local, unique restaurant offerings vs. the surrounding commercial chain restaurants along 5th Street. While the indoor food hall is not gigantic inside (it only has 4 stores mentioned above), it has a cool, hip vibe that is perfect for a casual meet-up with friends or business colleagues.
