I love breakfast and trying out different Atlanta breakfast restaurants is something I look forward to on a lazy weekend.  A few weeks ago, I was up for a low-key, less fancy-schmancy breakfast spot.  One place I have (embarrassingly) ignored since living in Atlanta for 6 years is Java Jive.  It is practically around the corner from where I live and for awhile, I thought it wasn’t even open.  Java Jive is located on the border of Virginia Highland and Old Fourth Ward…along Ponce de Leon near Ponce City Market and directly across from the Clermont Lounge.

What’s to love about Java Jive?
50’s style decor – I think what I loved about this place, is that it felt like I stepped back into time and was dining in my grandmother’s kitchen.  From the old retro kitchen tables to the old ovens on display in the waiting area, it brought back a lot of nostalgia.  Even the coffee cups were small (by today’s standard) but I’m sure that was the normal size back then.  It’s not a super fancy place, so if upscale/updated decor dining is more your scene, Java Jive isn’t for you.  I would also like to mention that the wait staff was super friendly and one waitress that wasn’t even assigned to our table was playing peek-a-boo with my little daughter.

Tasty breakfast food
The food was overall tasty.  I’d say it wasn’t anything too fancy, but that is kind of what I was in the mood for on this particular Saturday.  Just good ol’ home cooking.  I opted for the veggie omelet with wheat toast while my husband got the daily special of a turkey and apple egg scramble (Can’t remember exactly what it was called).  Oh, and we ordered challah french toast for my daughter (and of course we sampled it too).  Oh, let’s not forget about the coffee.  The coffee was tasty and hit the spot.
**One thing I should mention – Java Jive doesn’t take credit cards so make sure to bring cash.  But, if you forget (like we did) they do have an ATM in the back.  I’ll definitely be back again (this time, sooner than 6 years!)
