As Atlanta home seekers search for a neighborhood to call home that isn’t going to cost a fortune but still have a good mixture of bungalows and craftsman homes (and located in Intown Atlanta), I suggest one to consider living in the East Lake Neighborhood. I have listed some highlights of this community to give you an idea of why this area may be a location to consider when home shopping.
Consider Living in the East Lake Neighborhood because…..
1) Affordability – Expect to find newly built craftsman homes (with 4+ bedrooms and 2,500-3,000 sq ft) to cost around $500-$700K range. I know, it sounds expensive but when you compare prices with it’s close neighbors (Oakhurst/Decatur) it will seem like a bargain. But, if you are just looking for a small 3 bedroom bungalow, there are plenty of those to find in East Lake that can range in the mid $200’s up to $400K.
2) Scenic and Historic Golf Club – There’s nothing like having a beautiful golf club in your backyard. The East Lake Golf Club has been around since 1904. It’s an annual host to the prestigious PGA Tour attracting visitors to the area each year. The tudor-style clubhouse is an eye-stopper and although it is a private course, the views from the road are free!
3) Community Parks and Recreation and More–
- The East Lake YMCA (located at 275 E Lake Blvd SE) offers all sorts of fitness activities for the entire family and would be a short drive to the facility for anyone living in the area.
- The East Lake Public Park located just off of Memorial Rd is a great meeting spot for picnics and letting those kids burn off some energy. The park features baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and fun playground equipment.
- East Lake has a farmers market that runs every Saturday from 9AM-1PM during the months of April- November. It’s located at 2nd Ave & Hosea L Williams Dr. Click here for more info.
4) Upcoming Restaurants to Open in East Lake! – Back in May it was announced that the owners of Fellini’s and La Fonda plan to open 3 new restaurants in East Lake on the corner of 2nd Ave and Hosea L Williams Dr. This will be huge for the area, as local neighborhood restaurant dining is one aspect that East Lake lacks. This will be a boost for the local area to provide more walkability for locals. Even without these upcoming restaurants, East Lake is so close to Oakhurst that you almost don’t even recognize where the border lines are at. Oakhurst Square has it’s own little village of restaurants that residents in East Lake can easily walk to. Also down the road on Hosea is Kirkwood which also has some fun dining options.
5) Top Ranked Charter School – Everyone knows that Decatur schools are some of the best in the area, but don’t count out East Lake which features The Drew Charter school. It is a pretty impressive building and even more impressive is it’s school rankings. It is the #1 ranked Atlanta Public school for grades K-5 and is ranked #4 for grades 6-8. East Lake residents are given top priority for enrollment.
6) Location – Ok, of course East Lake isn’t next to Midtown or the Beltline but you can easily get to downtown via I-20 or Dekalb Ave. If you aren’t familiar with the location of East Lake, I’ve inserted a map to help you get oriented. East Lake has its own large and newer Publix store, so you don’t have to travel far for your weekly groceries. And don’t forget that East Lake is just a few miles from downtown Decatur which has a host of events, music, restaurants, and shops.
