Best Mexican Restaurant in Atlanta

Superica Blog

Superica BlogYesterday, I had the chance to go with my husband and eat at Superica, a new Tex-Mex restaurant that has opened at Krog Street Market in Inman Park.  I hate to categorize myself this way, but I’ve turned into a bit of a Tex-Mex snob.  My husband and I lived in Houston for several years, and while living there we took Mexican food for granted.  We didn’t realize how great it was (or how much we’d crave it) until we moved away.  If you’ve ever been to a major city in Texas and have tried their Mexican food, I’m sure you know what we’re talking about.  In our opinions, what makes Mexican food amazing is good charred meat and real homemade tortillas (not the factory store-bought kind most Atlanta Mexican restaurants seem to use).
Atlanta Mexican RestaurantI’ve been on the hunt for a good Mexican restaurant in Atlanta since moving here 4 years ago.  I honestly haven’t had much luck despite some recommendations I’ve received from friends claiming that such and such place has real authentic Mexican.  Well, alas!  My search is finally over!  Superica is owned by 2 guys from Dallas and Houston and they serve up Tex-Mex the way I remember it.  It’s the real, legit Tex-Mex I’ve been longing for.  My husband ordered the beef fajitas which did not disappoint.  They were a bit pricey ($24 I think), but it would have fed 2 people.  I had the chicken tacos al carbon which were delicious.  The tortillas are excellent and make you wanting to eat another even if you’re full.  In fact, I ordered some tortillas from Superica for a fajita party I hosted at my house a month ago.  They were a hit!  The margaritas there are delicious as well.  A bit on the strong side, but just perfect enough that you’ll want to order another. 🙂
Superica bar blogI’d highly recommend trying to eat there on a weekday.  Superica doesn’t take reservations and weekends are known to have long waits (over an hour).  I attempted to eat there one Saturday night, but I was too “hangry” to wait the 1 hr+ wait time.  Now, if you weren’t super hungry and willing to wait, you could always go over to Hop City and grab a beer or hang out at the Superica bar.  Superica has a great patio space too, with easy access to the bar from the outdoors.
Overall, I think Superica is the BEST Mexican restaurant in Atlanta by a landslide!  Check it out sometime, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
