4 Reasons to Love Homes in Druid Hills

One classic and historic neighborhood in Atlanta that cannot go unmentioned is Druid Hills.  The homes in Druid Hills range from jaw-dropping historic mansions priced in the millions to brick tudors, small bungalows, and ranch homes.  I’ve listed my top 4 reasons to love homes in Druid Hills.

1) Attractions in Druid Hills:

There are quite a few different areas around Druid Hills that make it a wonderful place to call home.  Some of the highlights include:

Walking Trails –
I love the scenic walking trails in Druid Hills.  Olmstead Linear Park is a string of 6 parks located along Ponce de Leon.  You’ll love the rolling hills and views of historic mansions that line these parks.  As a runner myself, I especially love to run along these paths which provide a little shade during those hot summer months.
Emory –
One of the most notable attractions in the Druid Hills area is the Emory campus (along with the CDC).  The Emory campus is beautiful and is home to about 15,000 students.  Also mixed in the campus is the Emory Healthcare hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta (CHOA).

Druid Hills Country Club & Fernbank Museum-
Located just off of Clifton Road and directly across from one another is the Fernbank Science Museum and the Druid Hills Country Club.  The Fernbank Science Museum is a popular spot to visit amongst families, class outings, and out of town visitors.  The Druid Hills Country Club is a private club which offers both social and golf memberships.  It’s one of a very few private country clubs inside the perimeter.  (FYI…You don’t have to actually live in Druid Hills to be a member)

2) Restaurants in Druid Hills –

Druid Hills has two primary locations for restaurants.

  • First up – Emory Village.

Located just on the edge of the Emory Campus is Emory Village.  It’s a quick stop for students and Emory employees to walk over and grab a bite to eat.  It’s mainly casual dining with places like Saba, Panera, Zoe’s, and one of the newest restaurants that opened is Double Zero, a modern pizza/Italian food hotspot.

  • Next up – Emory Point

If you work at the CDC, a closer option just across the street on Clifton Rd is Emory Point.  This is a much newer mixed-use retail establishment built in 2012.  It is filled with a number of quick eateries (Which Which, Burger-fi) and casual sit down restaurants like Tin Lizzy’s, the General Muir, and Marlow’s Tavern.  Besides restaurants, there are also some shopping including the Loft and Francesca’s to name a few.  Also fitness and health/beauty shops are interspersed as well.

3) Schools –

Druid Hills is home to a couple of excellent schools both public and private.  The Fernbank Elementary school is a very highly ranked public school in Atlanta and is currently under construction for a brand new facility.  The Paideia School is a private K-12 school stretched along Ponce de Leon in a set of 14 buildings.

4) Home Styles in Druid Hills –

As I had mentioned earlier, the homes in Druid Hills range from huge mansions to small bungalows.  You can find homes that are at both ends of the spectrum in terms of how updated they are.  Druid Hills is zoned as a historical area so beware that there are restrictions on renovating homes and can require some patience to get approvals for exterior renovations.
The price of homes in Druid Hills really varies depending on what you are looking for.  For the large, southern classic historical mansions you see lined along the streets such as Lullwater, Fairview, and Oakdale, expect to pay anywhere between $1.4-$3 million.  The average home sale price in the past 6 months in Druid Hills was just under $800K.  However, there are ranch and bungalow style homes that sell in the low $400’s-$500’s.
Overall, the Druid Hills area is just a lovely area rich in history and elegance.  If you are interested in seeing what is available for sale in Druid Hills, view ALL current homes for sale in Druid Hills HERE.
