It’s Summertime in Atlanta and to nobody’s surprise, it’s HOT! If you have kids, you are probably in desperate need of getting the kids (or maybe just yourself) out of the house to burn some energy. I’ve listed 4 Atlanta splash pads to cool off at this summer.
There are several splash pads throughout Greater Metro Atlanta, but here are a few of my favorites in the center of the city:
1) Old Fourth Ward Splash Pad – (800 Dallas St NE, Atlanta, GA 30308) This one opens at 10AM (I didn’t realize this the first time I went and showed up 40 minutes early with my toddler). Luckily there is also playground equipment adjacent to the splash pad, so we just played there until the water was up and running. I also like this venue because there are bathrooms, fairly good seating, and some of the seating is shaded. It’s one Atlanta splash pad that is easily walkable to and there is some side-street parking. But, parking can fill up fast so you may have to park a few blocks away. However, parking is free, which is always a good thing. And if you get hungry, you can always wander over to Ponce City Market’s Food Hall and grab a bite to eat.
2) Piedmont Park Splash Pad (Legacy Fountain) – (E Park Ln NE, Atlanta, GA 30309) At Piedmont Park, the Legacy Fountain runs from 8AM-8PM. It has restrooms and plenty of seating with partial shade. What I love about this one is that the fountains perform quite a show with various heights and water pressures. The only con with this one is that you either have to pay to park or else walk a short distance to get to it. The closest parking is to park in the Botanical Gardens parking deck. If you aren’t sure where to find this splash pad – it’s a little tricky to get to. If you park by the Botanical Gardens, you would need to follow the winding sidewalk down (east of the Botanical Building). If you are coming from the Dog Park area, follow trails that lead you north of the dog trail and eventually the trail will hit an incline…so put on your walking shoes and get ready to hike up a few little hills!
3) Zoo Atlanta Splash Pad – (800 Cherokee Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30315) This is a nice option if you want to spend part of your time doing something educational outside and then cool off at the end. There is also playground equipment, a carousel ride, and a new tree-top trail ropes-course that can keep kids busy for at least an hour. 🙂 The only con – you have to pay to get into the zoo, but a zoo membership is very reasonable and pays for itself within a few visits. The zoo opens at 9:30AM and closes at 5:30 on weekdays and 6:30 on weekends.
4) Centennial Olympic Park Splash Pad – (265 Park Ave W NW, Atlanta, GA 30313) Located in the center of downtown you will find the Olympic Rings that offer a water show 4 times a day (everyday) at 12:30, 3:30, 6:30, & 9PM. It’s not my first choice to take my kid as 1) you have to pay to park 2) there are always tons of people around and 3) it’s just not as convenient as other splash pads. That being said, it’s a fun experience to check out once in awhile and you can always make a day out of it and venture over to some of the other touristy destinations like the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, CNN, and the Kid’s Museum.
